Video: Local Goalkeeper's Spectacular Save Helps US Women's Soccer Advance To World Cup Final

A spectacular late-game save by a goalkeeper from Fairfield County was one of the key plays in the United States women's national team's 2-1 victory over England on in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 2 in France.

Alyssa Naeher of Stratford made the save on a penalty shot with 10 minutes to play in the second half to preserve the 2-1 lead. To watch a video of the save, click here. A Bridgeport native, the 31-year-old Naeher was a four-year starter at Penn State. Naeher graduated from Christian Heritage School in Trumbull in 2006.

The United States will now play in the title game on Sunday, July 7 against the winner of the other semifinal between Netherlands and Sweden.

The USA team was without the services of star midfielder/winger  Megan Rapinoe in the semifinal game due to a reported hamstring injury.
